As you may have guessed by now, vampires hold a special place in our hearts here at Future Classics Publishing.
With our best-selling Lords and Commoners Trilogy, one could even say we are obsessed with these supernatural creatures of the night.
Vampires in general have increased in popularity ever since Bram Stoker’s Dracula hit the shelves over 100 years ago. Now there are countless fictional novels and series written about bloodsucking characters.
Perhaps the most well-known contemporary vampire series is Twilight by Stephenie Meyer. The Twilight Series became a mega-hit after its release in 2005, where it hit best sellers lists everywhere within one month. This series left readers wanting more sparkly vampires and deadly love triangles.
Now that the saga has ended, fans of the series are wondering what to read that could give them the same thrill that Meyer gave them.
Well, we are here to make it easy for you! Our own resident author, Lynne Hill-Clark, has taken the time to review a few solid contenders to add to your reading list that will hopefully fill the Edward-shaped hole in your hearts.
What Vampire Books Are Like Twilight?
Crave by Tracy Wolff
If you liked Twilight and want a book that is very similar then this is the book for you. It covered many of the same plot points. It had all the “feels” of young love. The sexual tension was palpable throughout. Tracy captured the voice of teenage girls well. She has the genre (paranormal romance) down pat!
The end was full of suspense that will keep you reading.
Heat Level: Steamy. In place of traditional sex there was tons of sexual tension that drips from every page if not every sentence. No outright sex but rather it was vampire “sex” — very pleasurable blood sucking, which is arguably a metaphor for sex.
This could be a good topic for debate. Vampires have been a creature that has evolved through the ages and survived in our literature over the centuries.
What does the vampire represent for humans? For mortality, that we keep coming back to this fascinating creature in our fiction?
Inception by Bianca Scardoni
Like so many paranormal romances imitating Twilight, this one has it ALL. All the tropes and all the FEELS! It is very well written as you get to experience what it’s like to have a vampire drain you of blood in a REALLY sexy way. The end has a good twist — the betrayal cuts deep. It keeps you on your toes trying to decide who is good and who is bad. It will leave you needing book 2.
Way to go Bianca!
Heat Level: Mild-plus. Lots of kissing and some blood sucking. Plenty of sexual tension as this genre requires but no detailed sex scenes.
Vampire Novels for Adults: A Different Perspective
Crave and Inception take place in a contemporary setting with high school aged characters. The story is told, as most vampire stories are, from the perspective of the unsuspecting human coming in contact with the paranormal world. In my vampire novels, the Lords and Commoners Series, I wanted to tell the tale from the perspective of the ancient creatures themselves...
What would it be like to live forever?
Think of all you would know and the places and times you would have seen; all the people you would have had the chance to meet and the loved ones lost to you forever. Not to mention having to grow and change with the times.
I also wanted a more exotic setting, primarily Byzantium. While this had its fun challenges, I greatly enjoyed learning about an often forgotten time in history. Hopefully my stories will help to keep Byzantium alive in our minds and in our hearts. Oh, to be able to see the Queen of Cities in its prime. While not exactly the same, visiting Istanbul is definitely on my bucket list.
Want Even More Vampire Adventure?
There you have it folks, two great choices to sink your teeth into from an expert vampire writer herself!
As an avid fantasy writer, Lynne has written her own vampire series called the Lords & Commoners Trilogy, which follows a peasant girl in Medieval Europe who is thrust into the world of vampires. Along with bloodlust, Lynne instills elements of history and romance into an action packed coming-of-age tale that may or may not end with total world vampire domination.
Lynne’s series has been praised for its fresh setting and new take on these mysterious creatures.
So if you’re looking to expand your fictional vampiric accolades to a more grown-up perspective then grab a copy of Lynne’s Lords & Commoners Trilogy here.
